Life drawing session. Met some really nice and interesting people. This was Bret's first time posing and he did an excellent job. Hope he models again for us sometime soon.

More doodles. I'm tyring to study the "retro" look by playing with shapes, trying to keep things simple and of course, adding a thick outline.

Texas Ren Fair

We just got back from the Texas Renaissance Fair and are worn out! Had a few mishaps but all in all it was a good time and we all really enjoyed it. Inbetween eating kettle corn and passing out money every 10 min for this fairy thing or that princess thing, I tried to squeeze in some observations. Not much to look at here but it was fun! (mainly just ink and water, the one on bottom is pencil and watercolor)

Untitled: A Star is Born!

I completed the main character for a short animation idea I have. The first one I made, two nights ago, was an epic failure. I regrouped, slowed down and was able to make him the way I invisioned in my head. I have a rough idea of the story, thanks to my wife, but need to work it out in some thumbnail storyboards.
Materials used: Colorful yarn, pipe cleaners (horns), styrofaom balls, armiture wire, hot glue gun, crafting glue, construction paper.

Naked people on cd.

Some quick sketches I did with charcoal. I looked at a naked girl from one of Vilppu's Poses on CD. It's good practice drawing naked folk from photos but i'm itching to go study human's in their natural habitat--you know, naked on a box with pillows, bright lights shining on them and a room full of smelly hippies staring at them. Maybe this Sunday I can sneak out and hit the life drawing session downtown. It's only $5 for 3 hours!!

YouTube Grabber

If you like using Youtube videos as reference and going frame-by-frame through them, then here is probably one of the easiest methods I've found for doing that.
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/04/download-youtube-videos-as-mp4-files.html
Here's a character sheet of a bear I made up. There have been so many bears drawn over the years I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could come up with something new and different. Kinda looks like "Bear in the big blue house" but thats ok, he's a cool cat too. My girls like him and gave him the name Larry. Doesnt he look very lovable.

Anim Test thumbs

I found some thumbnails I did awhile back for planning my animation test for Amaze Entertainment. They sent me a Shrek model and wanted to see a run, flip in air, land and Ta-Da animation all done in Maya. I had never used Maya before and I had one week to complete it, on top of working full-time of course. This is what I ended up with and was actually pretty pleased with it.

Fountain Pens

I picked up a Lamy fountain pen, fine nib, a couple of weeks ago and so far I really, really like it. I've tried several differnt pens over the years, mainly purchased at art stores and they never seem to work the way I would like for them to. That is, they snag the paper, the ink isn't water soluble, ink doesn't flow well or I'm unable to find ink refills for that brand anymore. This Lamy Vista pen doesn't have a gold nib but it's not $160 either, but it is well worth the $30 just to have a nice drawing pen that flows well and is water soluble.

I created some sketches of a big eyed mammoth the other day and thought it might be fun to try and sculpt it. My wife's cousin Derek was the true inspiration though, after hearing his tales of creating wacky sculptures and leaving them in public places never knowing what became of them. I used super sculpey, trees from the hobby store and acrylic paint. He measures roughly 3" tall and 11" long. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and can't wait to start on another one. I've had several comments that he looks like chocolate...if only i could find chocolate scent to spray him with...mmMMmmm...chocolatey goodness.

Amaze Animation Test

This is an animtion test I did for Amaze Entertainment. This was right after 2015 fired everyone and I was unemployed (yay). I spent the first 4 days making sketches, finding the version of maya they wanted me to use and trying to figure out how to set keyframes. I spent the next 3 days blasting away at animating it. I ordered some books on Maya but they didn't arrive until the day after the test was to be turned in...bummer. I think it came out pretty well considering I had never used maya before. If I can find the rough thumbs I did I'll throw those up as well.
